DescriptionFrost on the Union Chain Bridge - geograph.org.uk - 1079303.jpg
English: Frost on the Union Chain Bridge The Union Chain Bridge lies on a minor road between Paxton (in Scotland)and Horncliffe (in England). It is an important route for cyclists crossing the Border as it avoids heavy traffic and carries both route 1 of the National Cycle Network (originally conceived as the Inverness and Dover route, now part of the North Sea Cycle Route http://www.sustrans.org.uk/default.asp?sID=1144848978671) and route 68 (Pennine Cycleway
http://www.cycle-routes.org/penninecycleway/). It is also a bit of a ratrun for motorists, but is currently closed due to a landslide on the English side; this explains why there are so few vehicle tracks in the frost. The road beyond the bridge is unlikely to be re-opened for some considerable length of time.
