Photographed at Villefranche, soon after arriving in the Mediterranean for operational service in January 1891. This photograph was received by the U.S. Office of Naval Intelligence on 1 June 1891 in Washington, District of Columbia. This ship deployed from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean for her first operational duty in January 1891. Note the large white, dotted flag possibly for use in the large maneuvers the ship took part in during June 1891 off Corsica.
