Summary

Description
English: Home made in 1984 this cryo-shield is based on that designed by 1966 by Bullivant and Ames. https://doi.org/10.1083/jcb.29.3.435 . When in action the block is around -196C. To the left the lid is removed showing the two small tunnels where the platinum and carbon shadows are deposited on the specimen. To the right is the interior where the tunnels converge onto the specimen. Properly used, the sheilding is so effective no etching is required to remove condensation.
