Description

Frank's Island Lighthouse, design by Winslow Lewis, 1823


This lighthouse was built at "Frank's Island" or "Frank Island", in Louisiana at the mouth of the Mississippi River, in 1823, replacing an earlier lighthouse at the site which had collapsed due to foundation problems. This lighthouse served through 1856; Frank Island was eroded away by the 1950s, and the ruins of the old lighthouse collapsed in 2002.
