English: The last trip of the Mercedes. José de Bustamante y Guerra, was in command of a fleet of four frigates, "Our Lady of the Mercedes", "La Clara", "La Medea" and "La Fama", when he was intercepted by an English squad on October 5 of 1804, off the coast of the Algarve (Portugal), in the middle of an unexpected fight, the frigate "Our Lady of the Mercedes" explodes violently sinking instantly. |
