Summary

Description
English: Fort Bovisand Dating from 1861-69 and built as a result of the 1860 Royal Commission which arose from fears of French aggression. It consists of 23 casemates set in a curving frontage, covering the area of sea to the east side of Plymouth Breakwater. The iron shields set within the granite ashlar surrounds are up to 3 feet thick, consisting of wrought iron plates fixed to a concrete, iron or teak core.
