Summary

Description
English: Postcard of Fort Amsterdam stamped in 1910. The backside states "Fort Amsterdam 'Now the Battery' in Kieft's Days. In 1632, Governor Minuit was recalled and succeeded by Van Twiller, who again was succeeded by Wm. Kieft in 1637. Kieft was recalled for cruelty in 1646.” Willem Kieft (1597-1647) was the Director of New Netherland from 1638 to 1647. The illustration is a colored version of the original by Arnoldus Montanus, 1671.
