English: Foresters building, Cowling, near to Cowling, North Yorkshire, Great Britain.
An interesting building adjoining the A6068 road. From a distance it could pass as a chapel or industrial building, but closer examination reveals a plaque which reads... Court 'Compassion' No104 of the Ancient Order of Foresters Friendly Society Established 13 August 1831. The date refers to the founding of the society, rather than the date of the building which looks mid to late 19th century. Maybe this was built as accommodation for poor families, as the Foresters provided housing and funds for the needy. Now converted to houses and presumably in private hands.
