The first of Oliver Bulleid's extraordinary 'Austerity' Class Q1 0-6-0s, all 40 of which were built at Brighton Works in 1942, No. C1 appeared in 3/42. It spent most of its life working from Guildford Shed until withdrawn as BR No. 33001 in 5/64. Preserved at National Railway Museum, it had a long spell on the Bluebell Railway, 5/77 - 5/04.
