  • Die Verwendung des abgebildeten Symbols ist durch eine Reihe von internationalen Abkommen geregelt, insbesondere die Haager Landkriegsordnung von 1899 und 1907, die Genfer Konventionen von 1949 sowie ihre Zusatzprotokolle von 1977 und 2005, und weitere Regeln des humanitären Völkerrechts, wie sie als Vertragsrecht oder Gewohnheitsrecht Bestand haben. Der Missbrauch dieses Symbols ist durch diese Abkommen sowie durch das nationale Recht aller Vertragsstaaten verboten. Diese Einschränkungen gelten unabhängig von den urheberrechtlichen Bestimmungen, die für die hier vorliegende Abbildung gelten.
  • Die derzeitige Version dieser Datei auf Wikimedia Commons, zu finden unter File:Flag of the ICRC.svg, entspricht nicht den Empfehlungen des IKRK, da sie nur das sogenannte Roundel ohne die Abkürzung "ICRC" zeigt. Für eine sogenannte indikative Verwendung zu Informationszwecken wie in der Wikipedia wird jedoch vom IKRK das aus Roundel und Abkürzung bestehende Logo empfohlen, da das Roundel ohne zusätzliche Beschriftung auch als Schutzzeichen in bewaffneten Konflikten verwendet wird (protektive Verwendung).
