English: Own work. Flag of the Grito de Lares (Cry of Lares) revolt in Puerto Rico, directly modeled after the Grito de Lares (Cry of Lares) flag at the Museum of History, Anthropology and Art of the University of Puerto Rico since 1954.[1] This Grito de Lares flag is considered to have been adopted by the Revolutionary Committee of Puerto Rico for the Grito de Lares revolt of 1868 against Spanish authority in Puerto Rico. However, there are no primary written sources to authenticate this flag, thus its originality is in dispute. Most historians do not recognize it as original, but as a copy made by the Nationalist Party of Puerto Rico in the 1930s based on contemporary but secondary and oral sources.[2][3]
This illustration features a light blue called light sky blue (hex color code #87cefa) and a brilliant red (hex color code #Ce0000), matching the colors of the Grito de Lares (Cry of Lares) flag exhibited in Puerto Rico.
This illustration follows the exact dimensions of the original flag exhibited at the museum. However, these are not the most commonly used and widely accepted specifications of the flag today, which features a sharp and upright five-pointed star with a diameter of one-third (13) relative to the width or hoist of the flag. These are visually recognized by the government of Puerto Rico.[4]

Several flags were made for the revolt in 1868, but only two have survived to this day. The other Grito de Lares (Cry of Lares) flag is exhibited at the Museum of the Army in Toledo, Spain since its discovery in 2022.[5][2]
