English: Closing mechanism of North American fire and smoke damper. This mechanism is open on the side. That is why at the point of through-penetration, there must be an air gap around the outside of the damper. This is closed off with angle iron. That means that smoke can migrate through this gap. If that gap were sealed with firestop caulking, this may void the listing of the damper. This means that North American dampers permit exterior smoke migration.
Deutsch: Verschließungsmechanismus einer noradmerikanischen Rauch- und Feuerschutzklappe. Dieser MEchanismus muss sich bewegen können. Daher werden noradamerikanische Klappen nicht vermörtelt. Die Öffnung zwischen der Klappe und der Wand oder der Decke wird von einem Winkeleisen verschlossen. Das ist natürlich nicht rauchdicht. Wenn diese Öffnung mittels Dichtstoff verschlossen wird, könnte dies gegen die bauaufsichtliche Zulassung der Feuerschutzklappe verstoßen.
