Description
English: The figure panel in the corridor to the Abbey Library of St. Gall shows the Dean and Convent of St. Gall. The Saint is enthroned in front of an ancient temple façade. He wears a red cloak with yellow lining on a blue dress and a white sleeve robe. His bearded head is illuminated by a golden nimbus in which SANCTUS GALLUS can be read with difficulty. His left hand rests on the curved shepherd's crook, the so-called cambutta. With his right hand he hands a loaf of bread to the bear rearing up in front of him. The brown bear is carrying a small tree trunk. At the saint's feet is the date 1566, year of creation of the figure panel. On the front of the pedestal on which the saint Gall is enthroned is a blue cartouche with the black inscription on a light background: Decan und Convent des Würdigen Gotts Hus Sant Gallen (Decan and Convent of the Worthy God's House Sant Gallen).
