DescriptionFenestrate leaves of Fenestraria aurantiaca IMG 3851c.jpg
English: Plants with this type of fenestration have their chloroplasts on the inner side of their protected leaf epidermis, using only the light that penetrates the surface windows, "fenestration" at ground level. This offers some protection from both herbivores and excessive sunlight. The plants are native to the arid regions of the southwest southern Africa. These specimens were photographed in the botanical gardens of the University of Stellenbosch.
