English: Using the RKDartists matches in Wikidata as of October 2014, the background slide shows the number of matches per language wiki for the wikis with the largest number of matches, split out male-female. The slide insert shows the percentage male-female per wiki (resorted for ease of comparison). The language wikis selected in order of most matches are English, German, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Polish, Swedish. Matches were made according to the Mix-n-Match tool by User:Magnus Manske. The metadata of RKDartists database was downloaded there in 2014 and contains 194,944 males and 60,282 females, or roughly 24% females, of whom most were born after 1850.
Included for extra reference are datapoints for Wikidata items linked with Commons Creator templates and/or Commons Categories. A visible gap between the two can be explained by the fact that female artists born after 1900 due to copyright issues probably only have images in their Commons categories that were not created by them (such as photos of them or their homes).
