Description
English: Head-piece to the first book of Samuel. 1 Samuel 5:4. Vignette with a beheaded statue with crown and trident lying beside a coffin with pillar behind and platter and jug in the right foreground; Dagon destroyed; letterpress in two columns below and on verso. 1793. Inscriptions: Lettered below image with production detail: "P. J. de Loutherbourg del", "J Landseer Aqua Forti fecit" and publication line: "Published 1 May 1793 by T Macklin, London". Print made by John Landseer. Dimensions: height: 475 millimetres; width: 384 millimetres.
