Summary

Description
English: Close up of undeployed first-generation grid fins on the top of the first stage booster of Falcon 9 Flight 15. Just before sunset at 6:03pm ET on Wednesday, Feb. 11th, Falcon 9 lifted off from SpaceX’s Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. carrying the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite on SpaceX’s first deep space mission. The grid fins were tested--for the first time on this flight--in a controlled-descent test of the first-stage booster that followed stage separation of the second stage.
