Description Hartley Soule stands in front of this Fairchild 22 with a leading edge high lift device installed for flight testing. This was the first of three Fairchild 22s to be used by the NACA at Langley Field, Virginia. This Fairchild 22 showed no aircraft number in the NACA shield on the rudder, although as the NACA fleet expanded, the number appearance became a requirement.
