Description A General Motors FM-2 Wildcat prepares to launch from the port catapult of the U.S. Navy escort carrier USS Matanikau (CVE-101) on 27 July 1944. Matanikau was mostly engaged in carrier qualifications for the U.S. Pacific Fleet until July 1945.
