Summary

Description Series of photos of a ramp strike of a U.S. Navy Grumman F9F-2 Panther from the Naval Air Test Center aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CVB-41) on 23 July 1951. Fortunately, on impact the cockpit section separated from the plane's fuselage and rolled forward on the flight deck saving the pilot, Cdr. George C. Duncan, from the fire. He only suffered minor injuries.
