Summary

Description

A U.S. Air Force Lockheed F-94B-5-LO Starfire (s/n 51-5408) from the 319th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron over Korea. The 319th FIS was deployed from Moses Lake AFB, Washington (USA), to Suwon AB, South Korea, in February and early March 1952. Until November 1952, the U.S. Fifth Air Force restricted the use of the F-94 to local air defense in order to prevent the possible compromise of its airborne intercept radar equipment in a loss over enemy-held territory. From November on the 319th maintained fighter screens between the Yalu and Chongchon Rivers, to protect B-29 Superfortress bombers.

Incidentally, the F94 pictured (s/n 51-5408) and it's crew were credited with the first Mig kill using nightscope equipment. Piloted by Capt. John R. Phillips and R/O 1st Lt. Billy J. Atto, the event took place May 10th, 1953. The 'kill' was made over Pukchin, North Korea.
