DescriptionExeter St David's with North Cornwall express geograph-2983723-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg
English: Waterloo - North Cornwall express entering Exeter St David's.
View southward at the end of the island platforms used by SR trains at Exeter St David's, with the WR main line to Newton Abbot, Plymouth and Penzance straight ahead. The 07.33 Summer Saturdays from Waterloo is coming down the incline on the left from Exeter Central. To save time and line-occupation, one of the incline bankers is piloting. The train engine is Bulleid Light Pacific No. 34016 'Bodmin' (built 11/45 as No. 21C116, rebuilt and renumbered 1958, withdrawn 6/64 but preserved and now (2012) on the Mid-Hants Railway). The banker is Maunsell E1/R 0-6-2T No. 32124, built originally as E1 0-6-0T No. 124 'Bayonne', becoming SR No. 2124 and rebuilt 12/28, withdrawn 1/59. [Unfortunately, it was pouring with rain, but the 1949 photograph has various interesting features].
