Engraved powder horn with strap
Description
Convex wooden stopper (with cork in hole) in large end. Many engravings in horn. no cork for small end. Large stopper held by 6 small nails. Horn split + a piece missing. Gut shoulder strap. Design: Lettering "IS" or "JS", Crescent moon, fox-like animal, fish, dog, bird in tree, overlapping scallops at base near plug. Emblem: Patriotic eagle holding arrows in one claw and branch in other. Ringed by a circle with the following inscription "Ah Egough Elough Glough (?) 1803 IAN_" A: Horn B: Cork; Metal attachment on plug is probably part of a pocket watch. Horn has been scraped thin so that when held up to light, the remaining powder is easily seen. Scraping acts as indicator gauge.
