Summary

Description
English: An example of territorial fragmentation in 18th century Europe. The independent Principality of Liège contained dozens of foreign enclaves that belonged to the Austrian Netherlands (dutchies of Brabant, Namur, etc.), the United-Provinces (now the Netherlands), France, Bouillon, Luxembourg, Stavelot-Malmédy and Trier. Liège had exclaves inside several of those states. From a map of the Austrian Netherlands and nearby areas published by British geographer W. Faden in 1789.
