For December 2013 there were 5.5 million people working in the public sector across the UK accounting for 18.2% of people in employment.

For December 2013 there were 5.5 million people working in the public sector across the UK accounting for 18.2% of people in employment. The number of people working in the public sector fell by 159,000 between September and December 2013, mainly due to Royal Mail plc moving out of the public sector.

For December 2013, the top three industries for December 2013 were the National Health Service (NHS) which employed 1.6 million people, Education which employed 1.5 million people and Public Administration which employed 1.1 million people.
