Description
Español: En 1904 se autorizó a la compañía Southern Pacific que construyera por el valle al sur de la frontera un ramal de vía férrea, para completar el tramo que comunicaría San Diego con Yuma. Este ramal entró a territorio nacional por Mexicali, se dirigió luego hacia el oriente, a Los Algodones, y de ahí cruzó de nuevo la línea internacional, hasta Yuma. A este ferrocarril se le conoció como Intercalifornia, pero popularmente se le llamó El Chinero, porque la mayoría de sus usuarios por el valle eran chinos, que se trasladaban de un rancho a otro a las labores agrícolas y poblaban las zonas rurales en mayor número que los mexicanos. A lo largo de la vía fueron surgiendo poblados, en las estaciones del ferrocarril: Pascualitos, Palaco, Sesbania, Kasey, Cucapá, Pólvora, Hechicera, Batáquez, Tecolotes, Paredones, Cuervos y Algodones.
