Description
English: Edward Rydz-Śmigły, Polish commander in chief in 1939.
Polish soldiers salute using two fingers, not the whole hand, thus symbolizing "Honour and Fatherland" or, according to another interpretation, "God and Fatherland". The tradition goes back to Napoleonic times and has never been abolished, not even in the Army of Communist Poland.
