Postcard of The Street, Capel-le-Ferne, Folkestone, England, published by E. Palmer of the Post Office, Capel. The card is undated, but the vehicles and the quality and style of the postcard indicate a date between 1910 and 1914.

NOTE: This is not Capel-le-Ferne, it is Capel, Surrey, RH5 5EP. The houses were built in the 1920s, so the date given above is incorrect.

Note from uploader: I now think this is more likely to be Capel-le-Ferne, Folkestone (not Surrey) so the category may be incorrect. Further checking is required.

Points of interest

• The houses as shown in the image on both sides of the street still exist.
• The diagonal viewpoint along the road and clear focus suggest professional training or apprenticeship.
• The card contains a message on the back, but not addressed, stamped or postmarked - perhaps originally enclosed in an envelope. The message is written in a shaky, possibly elderly, hand; it is copied here exactly as written. It says: "Dear Gladwin, I wish you the Best of health & every other good Luck this Happy Season. To Dear Gladwin, your young man is going to be married Soon has He can get a House now dont let this disturb you His Father was married 2nd time a little while ago" (sic)
