An der Eisenbahn bei Dolnji-Vakuf. aus, die in nettem Schweizerstil wie Landhäuser in dem Schutze derWalder liegen. Von Zeit zu Zeit führen Holzbrücken über den Fluss; amlinken Ufer liegen nämlich die Ansiedlungen, Dörfer und Hans und hierhaben sich auch die provisorischen Kolonien der Bahnarbeiter gebildet,die seit Eröffnung der Bahn natürlich wieder verschwinden. Hinter StationBabinoselo verengt sich der Fluss immer mehr; bei Station Vijenac ragenauf 1035 Meter hohem Kegel die Ruinen der gleichnamigen Burg auf demrechten Ufer empor, das Stammschloss der ungarischen gräflichen FamilieKeglcvic. Dir Strasse umgeht den grössten Theil des Burgfelsens, deram Yereinigungspunkte dreier Thäler emporragt und der einst ein ungemeinwichtiger strategischer Tunkt war. Immer enger wird das Thal,1 immerdichter die Bewaldung der Berglehnen. Nach Passirung zweier Tunnels ■\ 6

von 150 Meter und j^, Meter Länge bietet sich plötzlich bei einer Biegungdes Weges ein grossartiger Anblick. Vor uns liegt eine mittelalterlicheBergfestung. Hohe, zum Thcil verfallene Mauern ziehen -ich über dieBergrücken, von mächtigen Thürmen flankirt, während Häuserreihen sichnach allen Seiten in die Felsen erstrecken. Das ist das Kastell von Jajcc,der romantischen Königsstadt. Die Strasse vereinigt sich mit der vonTravnik hier einlaufenden Fahrstrasse, übersetzt auf einer 55 Meter langenBrücke den Fluss und fuhrt am grossen Plivafall, dessen (Gewässer schäumenund brausen, vorüber, durch ein mittelalterliches Festungsthor in die Stadt,wo uns das von der Regierung gebaute »Grand Hotel« in seine behaglichengastlichen Räume aufnimmt.
