Description
English: Photo showing the steamer Dumont d'Urville, belonging to the French-based Messageries Maritimes, loading copra at Epi (also Api), one of the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu), between 1930 and 1932.
Rechristened Joan Moller by the Swedish shipping company Moller, it will be scuttled off Hong Kong in December 1941, then refloated by the Japanese who christened it Gyoyu Maru. Sunk by an American submarine 3 July 1944 between Taiwan and Luzon, Philippines. (Information from the Encyclopédie des Messageries Maritimes)
