DescriptionDrymophila klagesi (Klages's Antbird) - female and male (7612302738).jpg
Not to be confused with Klages's Antwren (a Myrmotherula). This nice pair is of Drymopila klagesi, a species from the coastal mts. of Venezuela, NE Colombia, and Serranía de Perijá. This is one of four species that until now were treated as a single species (Long-tailed Antbird). All the four 'newly delineated' Drymophila occur in Colombia (the other Andean countries count only one). Attention should be paid to D. caudatasensu stricto because it could be a threatened species (certainly rare and poorly known). A new study by Mort Isler et al. (Condor 114: 571–583) provides insights on the diversification of these bamboo/dense-thickets specialists, feel free to download it from here. Check out Drymophila striaticeps.
