English: Drawing of Guglielmo Marconi's wireless telegraphy transmitting station in Poldhu, Cornwall, erected in 1902 for transatlantic communication with an identical antenna on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The antenna consisted of 400 wires in an inverted pyramid suspended from triatic stays 200 ft on a side stretched between four 210 ft (64 meter) wooden lattice towers. The reason for the multiple wires of the antenna was to increase its capacitance to ground, to allow it to store more energy during each spark. Shortly after a large circular capacitive topload of radial wires connected to the ends of the vertical wires was added, to make the antenna usable at a lower frequency, 70 kHz.
