English: The motif on this carpet, bought in 1886 Rome by Mr. W. v. Bode of the likenamed museum fame, is chinese, depicting the struggle between a dragon and a phoenix. Bode saw a similar design on a fresco in Italy, from 1440. The carpet is unique (but one can buy good copies now). Turkey, 15-16th century, wool, symmetric knots.
Deutsch: Das Motiv auf diesem Teppich, der 1886 in Rom von Herrn W. v. Bode vom gleichnamigen Museumsruhm gekauft wurde, ist chinesisch und zeigt den Kampf zwischen einem Drachen und einem Phönix. Bode sah einen ähnlichen Entwurf auf einem Fresko in Italien aus dem Jahr 1440. Der Teppich ist einzigartig (aber heute kann man gute Kopien kaufen). Türkei, 15.-16. Jahrhundert, Wolle, symmetrische Knoten. |
