Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | for visual identification of the person in question, at the top of their biographical article
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
Most surviving photographs of Dr. Elizabeth "Betty" Hayes are news photos, and there aren't many of them. Although Dr. Hayes dominated headlines in US newspapers for several months of 1946, she has since been forgotten and she was never eager to pose for pictures. This represents a rare moment in which she'd developed a relationship with the journalist and photographer.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | I plan to use only this photo in the Wikipedia article.
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
The photographer—who's most likely deceased, and I can't find anything about him online– probably didn't own the copyright; it probably belonged to the magazine. This image appeared in the first-ever issue of Salute, then published by Veterans Publishing of New York City. That company went out of business decades ago. The magazine Salute was revived in much different form in 1985, but the current publisher told me in an email message that his company, Family Media, doesn't own the copyright to the 1946 issue and he has no information on the copyright holder.
Other information | The subject of the photograph has been deceased since: 1984
