Summary

Description
English: The operating mechanism of the William Boulton double-cone potters' (throwing) wheel c1880. The driven cone is straight sided and moves relative to the other cone which has curved sides, thereby varying the speed of the driven cone. The counterbalanced foot pedal controls the speed, and in the raised position (as shown) the cones are no longer in contact and the drive is thus disconnected.
