Image title
A beautiful leaf litter specialist, this Eyebrow Frog (Edalorhina perezi) was photographed in a tract of forest off of the Rio Sucusari, Loreto, Peru, 2016. The bright colors on the flanks and groin are considered flash markings. One hypothesis is that as a last ditch mechanism to escape a predator in close proximity, frogs with the markings leap and expose the bright colors. The colors may startle the predator just long enough to escape. These frogs can leap considerable distances as well.
