English: The front of a Taiwanese bamboo dongxiao, showing five finger holes and blowing hole and notch. There is one further finger hole on the back of the instrument, for the left thumb. The bottom of the instrument comes from the root end of the bamboo, as with most Japanese shakuhachis. The dongxiao is painted black.
