English: Romanesque shrine with relics of holy Domitian in Millstatt Abbey / district Spittal an der Drau in Carinthia / Austria / EU.
Deutsch: Romanischer Reliquienschrein des heiligen Domitian von Kärnten im Stiftsmuseum Millstatt in Millstatt / Kärnten / Österreich. Die Reliquien des hl. Domitian wurden beim Neubau der Kirche nach einem Großbrand um 1170/80 wiedergefunden. Der Schrein ist auf die Zeit von 1140 zu datieren und ein Unikat im süddeutschen Raum. Vergleichbare Reliquienschreine aus dieser Zeit sind nur noch aus dem Kölner Raum und Maastricht bekannt. Zumindest bis 1492, möglicherweise bis 1643, barg die Eichenholztruhe die Gebeinen von Domitian, seiner Frau und eines Kindes. Stirnseiten: Brustbilder des hl. Paulus und des Propheten Jesaja. Langseite: Ornamentale Bemalung mit kunstvollen Eisenbeschlägen. |
