Summary
[edit]Description | Photograph by John W Twycross from glass plate, 1923. Taken at McCrae Homestead, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia. Dollond telescope ca 1840. Made by "G. Dollond, Optical, Mathematical and Philosophical, Telescope Maker to the Queen". It enabled the viewer to see the names of ships passing by in the channel that runs through Port Phillip Bay to Melbourne. On the homestead verandah it was often slung from a wire to steady it over its five foot three inch length. The original brass telescope is on display in the Burrell-Twycross Gallery at the McCrae Homestead. |
