Deutsch: Die Seigneurie Saint-Jean-de-l'Île-d'Orléans ist eine "Canadian National Historic Site" und liegt an der Südküste der Insel Île-d'Orléans nahe der Stadt Québec. Das heutige Anwesen auf knapp 10 Hektar Fläche beherbergt mehrere Gartenanlagen mit verschiedenen Pflanzenthemen, eine Lavendelplantage mit 70.000 Pflanzen, Weinberge, Japangarten, eine Apfelbaumallee sowie eine Brücke mit Türmen im mittelalterlichen Baustil.
Der Chirurg Jean Mauvide kaufte 1720 einen Teil des heutigen Grundstückes und errichtete darauf sein erstes Anwesen. 1750 wurde er zum Generalprokuristen des damaligen Bischofs Joseph-Ambroise Gaillard ernannt, damaliger Grundherr der Insel Île-d'Orléans. Zwei Jahre später erwarb Jean Mauvide von ihm die Hälfte der Seigneurie einschließlich der Gemeinden Saint-Pierre und Saint-Laurent.
Français : La Seigneurie de Saint-Jean-de-l'Île-d'Orléans est une ferme composée de multiples jardins thématiques, aménagés sur près de 10 hectares bordant le fleuve Saint-Laurent. En plus des six jardins exceptionnels, la Seigneurie propose plusieurs attraits comme les jardins Lavanderaie avec 75 000 plants, Jardin des 5 sens, Vignoble, Jardin fruitier, Jardin d’ombre, Jardin amérindien, Jardin japonais, Allée Royale ornée de 40 pommetiers et de statues, Pont médiéval flanqué de deux tours et Pont de pierres en arche.
Vers 1720, Jean Mauvide s'établit à l'île d'Orléans et y exerce son métier de chirurgien et il fait l'acquisition en 1734 d'une terre sur laquelle il construit une maison, d'abord modeste, qu'il transformera par la suite en manoir. En 1750, Mauvide devient le procureur général du chanoine Joseph-Ambroise Gaillard, seigneur de l'Île-d'Orléans. En 1752, il achète de Gaillard, la moitié sud-ouest de la Seigneurie, comprenant les paroisses de Saint-Pierre et de Saint-Laurent. |
