Summary

Description
English: A mutual capacitance array can be formed by crossing one set of electrical conductors over a second set of condutors, in a horizontal/vertical x/y format, ensuring they are in close proximity but electrically isolated from each other. An electrical signal imposed sequentially, on each member of the first set, is detected by each member of the second set, at the intersections of the two sets. If there are a total of n conductors, the maximum number of intersections is (n/2)^2. The number of intersectins can be almost doubled by using a diagonal format. Here the maximum number of intersections is (n^2) - n. By slightly distorting these conductors, the equivalent of a (n-1)(n/2) x/y array is formed. Simple x/y scanning can be performed after using a "look-up" table.
