Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) This file will illustrate the destruction in Masaka following its capture by Ugandan rebels and Tanzanian forces in 1979. The town was the third most populous place in Uganda at the time and the damage wrought against it was some of the worst of all urban damage throughout the entire Ugandan-Tanzania War.

This photo was taken shortly after the town was leveled in 1979, almost 40 years ago. Much of Masaka has since been rebuilt, so it is no longer possible to take pictures of the ruins. Most if not all photos taken during the time period are currently under copyright and will be so for many years.
