| Description |
English: The disused Derwenthaugh Staithe on the River Tyne near Blaydon, around 1987, with Scotswood road and railway bridges, Lemington glass cone and Stella North & South power stations visible in the background. Vickers Defence Systems' Armstrong Works (now BAE Systems) is also visible on the north bank of the river. The tanks to the left of the photo were a storage facility for tar and ammonia produced as a by-product of the coking process at the nearby Derwenthaugh cokeworks and shipped along with coal and coke from the staithe. |
