Summary
| Description | The Derrick Knob shelter, situated along the Appalachian Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains of the U.S. states of Tennessee and North Carolina. The shelter stands atop Big Chestnut Bald (appx. elevation 4,900ft/1490m) in the vicinity of what was once Hall cabin, a herder's shack mentioned often in the Horace Kephart book Our Southern Highlanders. The forest has reclaimed most of the bald, and only a minor remnant of the once vast pasture remains. |
