Summary
| Description |
Both doctors and quacks used the blood-sucking creatures to treat a number of ailments, ranging from headaches to "hysteria." The leech collectors, usually poor country women, used themselves as human traps. They would wade into dirty ponds in the hope of attracting leeches.
