Summary

Description
English: Black-and-white photograph taken on Long Millgate, Manchester, in 1923, at the location known locally as "Poet's Corner". The medieval timber-framed building in the middle of the photo is a former pub known as the Sun Inn (later an antique store known as Ye Old Curiosity Shop). The front facade of the building remains, partially hidden behind a row of hoardings (covered in advertisements), but the main body of the building is mid-demolition, with walls knocked down and interior timbers exposed. The photographer is standing outside the entrance to what is now Chetham's Library, looking eastwards.
