To illustrate the work of the visual artist who is the article's subject, and specifically to show what the caption describes, and the text reiterates, as "Wood's best-known work for Marvel, debuting Daredevil's modern red costume." This is the only example here of Wood's art for Marvel Comics, where he did notable work. It depicts the first public image of Wood's design for the character, who has gone on to become one of Marvel's cornerstones in that same costume decades later, and so that first public image is of historical interest.
