  • It is a known couples portrait, designed te be stored in a pouch and carried along.
  • Maria Louise de Hart daughter of freed slave (by purchase) and a jewish plantation owner
  • Johannes Ellis son of Abraham de Veer Dutch governor in Ghana and a Ghanese woman Fanny Ellis [2].
  • The couple moved to Amsterdam in 1860 with their four children. The youngest son was Abraham George Ellis (1846-1916), who became a Minister in the Dutch Government in the early 20th century.
