Object history
Deutsch: Das von Ulf-Dietrich Korn entworfene Wappen wurde am 17. Juli 1963 vom Regierungspräsidenten in Aurich genehmigt.
English: The lion is derived from the arms of the family Beninga of Grimersum, who originally came from the Beninghaburch in Wirdum (first mentioned in 1354). The crozier symbolises a monastery which was founded in 1255 just south of Wirdum.
