Object history
Deutsch: Winkelhaid besteht seit 1972 aus den ehemals selbstständigen Gemeinden Winkelhaid und Penzenhofen. Der Winkel steht redend für den Ortsnamen, der auf der Heide im Winkel bedeutet. Der Bienenstock weist auf die einstigen Zeidelgüter und die damit verbundene Waldbienenzucht hin, die für alle drei Orte von Bedeutung war. Winkelhaid lag im so genannten Lorenzer Reichswald. Der Kreuzstab ist das Attribut des Heiligen Johannes, dem die Kirche in Penzenhofen geweiht ist. Die Kirche diente als Studentenkapelle der Theologischen Fakultät der Universität Altdorf. Viele angehende Theologen hielten hier ihre ersten Predigten. Die Universität wurde im 17. Jahrhundert gegründet und 1809 aufgelöst.
